Accessibility Services Program Provides Innovative Solutions for Meeting Accessibility Codes

Architects, developers, building owners and managers needing assistance in understanding or complying with the latest state and federal accessibility requirements for people with disabilities have a reliable guide in United Spinal Association’s Accessibility Services program. At www.accessibility-services.com building professionals will find information about Accessibility Services staff who are voting members of the national accessibility standard ANSI A117.1 and registered providers of continuing education for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the International Code Council (ICC). This team of certified accessibility specialists, attorneys, code officials, design professionals and plans examiners, are now applying their expertise as code consultants.

“United Spinal Association has long worked toward the development and instruction of state and national federal accessibility requirements, including the Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG) and the International Building Code (IBC),” said Director Dominic Marinelli. “So it’s only natural that we now share our expertise through our consulting services with design professionals.”

Accessibility Services also provides an online forum designed to provide architects, code officials, and members of the general public with a user friendly, web-based resource for accessibility related questions. “Whether it’s an apartment building, a commercial skyscraper, a concert hall, sports arena, airport, or transportation hub, we are here to help ensure that it is fully accessible to people with disabilities without sacrificing the integrity of your design,” continued Marinelli.

Through its Accessibility Services program, United Spinal Association shares nearly 60 years of experience in making the built environment fully accessible to all citizens with mobility disabilities. The Accessibility Services Program has provided expert advice and consultation for a wide variety of projects such as the new Yankee Stadium, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Philadelphia Airport Expansion, the American Institute of Architects in North Carolina, the Maryland Department of Housing, the Army Corps of Engineers, the United States Tennis Association’s National Tennis Center and the City of Aspen, Colorado. They have trained thousands of design professionals nationwide and play a prominent role in crafting landmark legislation such as the Americans with Disabilities Act.
