Director of Policy Joins National Academy of Social Insurance

Washington, DC — Alaine Perry, United Spinal Association’s Director of Public Policy, was recently nominated and selected as a member of the National Academy of Social Insurance (NASI). NASI is an organization made up of over 750 of the nation’s leading experts on social insurance programs such as Social Security and Medicare. Membership is by invitation only and is based on accomplishments and expertise in the social insurance field.

Alaine Perry has an extensive background in the Social Security and SSI disability programs and was one of the leading advocates in the development and passage of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999, legislation to reduce barriers to employment for Social Security and SSI disability beneficiaries. As United Spinal’s Director of Public Policy, she has continued to take a leadership role in advocating for improvements to the disability programs, for reducing barriers to employment, and for protecting access to cash benefits for those unable to work.

United Spinal Association is a national nonprofit advocacy organization for veterans and all people with spinal cord injuries or disorders. In addition to helping write the Americans with Disabilities Act, United Spinal was also instrumental in drafting portions of the Fair Housing Amendments Act (FHAA) and the Air Carrier Access Act (ACAA). The Association promotes compliance with these laws and educates the public about them.
