Jackson Heights, NY–On Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, United Spinal Association’s accessibility specialists will present a training session entitled “Accessibility Update: City, State, and Federal Requirements,” at Syracuse University’s Lubin House, 11 East 61st Street in New York City.

The new New York City Construction Codes law was adopted in July of 2007, and it will become effective on July 1, 2008. Architects and builders will have the option to use the current or the new codes for one year, but beginning July 1, 2009, it becomes mandatory to follow the new codes.

Attendees will gain an understanding of the New York City IBC/ANSI A117.1 accessibility requirements that go into effect in July. Emphasis will be placed on: problematic access applications in commercial facilities; compliance with the Fair Housing Accessibility Guidelines in residential construction; accessibility requirements for existing facilities; and, life safety issues.

All attendees will receive 7 AIA continuing education units that are applicable towards health, safety, and welfare (HSW) requirements.

A luncheon keynote lecture on Architectural Liability will be delivered by Kleo J. King, Senior Vice President of Accessibility Services for United Spinal Association.
