One day when I was walking in the mall, a young girl in a wheelchair whizzed by me. I never knew anyone could travel so fast in a manual wheelchair! But my first thought about her was, “There goes a girl who would be fun to know!” I didn’t get that feeling from her speed (although I was impressed), but because her wheelchair spokes were covered with brightly covered neon straws- flaming orange, hot pink, and electric green.

Did you know that your favorite colors tell other people a lot about you? Even if you don’t get to choose your own clothes or if you have to wear a uniform to school, you can still show some of your favorite colors in your choice of notebooks, backpacks, hair ribbons, and things in your room. If you’ve visited an emergency room lately, you’ll know that bandages, casts, and crutches come in your choice of colors, too. So, if you were to draw a picture of yourself, what color would you be?
Many scientists have studied the colors people like and discovered what kinds of personalities match certain colors. Let’s look at what they say your favorite colors say about you.
• Red: People who like red are usually strong, energetic people. Red people love life. If you chose red, you make an interesting and fun-filled friend.
• Yellow: If you like yellow, you are probably happy and wise and have a good imagination. People like being around you because of your sunny personality.
• Blue: Did you color yourself blue? If so, you have a lot of patience and self control. You make friends slowly, but are a loyal and true friend.
• Purple: If you are a purple person, you are artistic and you like being different from the crowd. You like friends who let you be the leader.
• Brown: Do you like brown? I do! We have lots of patience and make reliable and kind friends.
• Black: Are you one of the people who loves black? If so, then you are a person of mystery. You don’t like to show off, and you like to be friends with people who also have an air of mystery.
• White: If you like white, you probably like to keep things simple-no fuss, no bother. You like friends who are not loud or showy. Of course, not everyone likes just one color.
Most of us are a combination, and hopefully show the good qualities of each color in our personalities. For example, if you like pink, you probably have some of red’s personality and some of white’s.
So, what color are you? If you’d like to share your colorful personality with us, send in a paragraph or drawing telling us your colors and how you show them. Send this by January 1, 2006 to:
