This issue marks the second appearance of The Observatory, an open-ended column that reflects an aspect of the cover theme not dealt with in the feature section. The first Observatory was Liz Treston’s take on the issue of accessible housing in March. This month, another writer who happens to be a member, Linda Cronin, looks at a significant barrier to health and well-being: inaccessible doctor’s offices.
Another new column debuting this month is Accessible Home, a spin-off of Rosemarie Rossetti’s cover story in the March issue of Action on her “universal design dream house.” This column, appearing on page 32 of this issue, will trace the problems and solutions Rosemarie encounters as she and her husband build their new home in Columbus, Ohio. I hope readers will be able to transfer her discoveries to their own situations.
I’m pleased, belatedly, to point out the debut of another occasional column that I think many readers will find useful: Managing Pain, by Dr. David Siegel of the James J. Peters Veterans Affairs Medical Center in the Bronx, New York. Dr. Siegel’s first column appeared in the last issue. As readers of What’s Bloggin’ on page 6 will see, it has already sparked some interest in its incarnation at Action Online ( www.unitedspinal.org/publications/action). You won’t find Managing Pain in this issue, but you can find last month’s column here.
One other addition I’m delighted to call your attention to is the slightly twisted world of cartoonist/member Reese James, known as Reeseo to his fans. Among his numerous accomplishments, Reese has written and illustrated for Hallmark cards, American Greetings and Gibson Greetings and has published cartoons in Playboy, Esquire, and Look, just to name a few. He also wrote material for the late standup comic Rodney Dangerfield. Keep your eyes peeled for a new Reeseo creation each month.
You can always drop me a line to tell me what you think of these and other Action attractions. I also encourage you to participate in our on-line Action Readership Survey. It won’t take long, and it will help us design a better magazine for you. Any reader of Action can take the survey, including spouses or parents of United Spinal members. To take the survey, please go here. Thanks in advance for your participation!

Good Afternoon, I have been trying to track down Reese James . I wonder if you would be an angel and ask Reese to contact me. We are old friends from many years ago. It would be like a reunion, a grand reunion. As I live in St Petersburg, Florida, I do not get your publication. I would like to get it to glance at Rese’s work and your. Ms Carol
