HomeFreeHome: Providing Free and Affordable Home Modifications

Does your house have barriers like hazardous steps at the front entry, narrow doors, tight hallways and small dangerous bathrooms? Do you need to install a ramp or remodel your bathroom or kitchen to make your home accessible and safe?

If you answered yes to these questions, you should take a look at a new non-profit named HomeFreeHome. This organization is a group of volunteer architects, contractors and students who provide free and affordable designs for home accessibility.

The team will help you to evaluate your specific needs and the project’s feasibility and develop a construction cost budget. They create universal designs for small-scale construction projects—ramps, accessible bathrooms and kitchens. HomeFreeHome knows that good universal design and even minimal changes in the home can create dramatic benefits in daily life.

Starting on Long Island, New York, HomeFreeHome is expanding to other states. Architects have already volunteered in many states including; Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Florida and are ready to start work.
