Copaxone® Therapy Innovation

In late April, Copaxone (glatiramer acetate) became available in a pre-filled, ready-to-use syringe – the first one approved by the FDA in the US. For persons with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS), this innovation may mean less time and effort spent on preparing injections and more time to do the things they enjoy.

Kansas City-based Teva Neuroscience, Inc., which provides Copaxone, conducted a study to quantify the time-savings potential of the new pre-filled syringe. The survey of 114 people with RRMS showed that the Copaxone pre-filled syringe reduced the average (reconstituted Copaxone) preparation time from 235 seconds to 38 seconds, savings more than 20 hours of time during the course of a year.

The pre-filled syringe is expected to replace the previous mixable form of Copaxone. It will have the same effect and proven tolerability. It can be stored at room temperature for up to 7 days.
