United Spinal Network is made up of individuals, companies, institutions and organizations working together for one unified purpose – Improving the lives of persons with a spinal cord injury or disease.

United Spinal Network includes members, chapters, support groups, donors, businesses,hospitals, veterans, clinicians, caregivers and service providers.

United Spinal has over 65 years of experience educating and empowering individuals with SCI/D to achieve and maintain the highest levels of independence, health and personal fulfillment. We have more than 60 local chapters and support groups nationwide, connecting people with a spinal cord injury or disease to their peers and fostering an expansive grassroots network that is dedicated to enriching lives.

United Spinal Chapters

United Spinal Chapters are self-dependent organizations that share the goals of United Spinal Association and support them within a specified geographical region. Our chapters support the spinal cord injury/disease community in many different ways – by promoting health and well being, promoting inclusion and independence, organizing local events and projects, advocating for rights and accessibility, and offering information and support to their chapter communities.

Veterans

United Spinal’s VetsFirst is a free support service for Veterans and their family members. You can find Knowledge Books on a wide range of veterans issues and topics. You can also submit a request and have one of our counselors answer your questions.

United Spinal Association and Hollister, Inc., have teamed up to create a national network of peer support groups called the “Spinal Network”. Spinal Network Support Groups provide peer to peer support for individuals, friends and family members. Our list of affiliated Spinal Network support groups is constantly growing so please check back if you can’t find one in your area.

Spinal Cord Injury

Spinal cord injury can result in paralysis of the muscles used for breathing; paralysis and/or loss of feeling in all or some of the trunk, arms, and legs; weakness; numbness; loss of bowel and bladder control; and numerous secondary conditions including respiratory problems, pressure sores, and sometimes fatal spikes in blood pressure. Approximately 12,000 new spinal cord injuries occur in the U.S. each year. A majority of injuries occur from motor vehicle accidents, falls, work-related accidents, sports injuries, and penetrations such as stab or gunshot wounds.

Our Membership Community

Our membership community provides a lifeline for many individuals that are focused on regaining their independence and improving their quality of life––whether they are leaving rehab after sustaining a spinal cord injury, learning to live with symptoms of a spinal cord disorder, or have spent years of frustration coping with disability. We provide members guidance and resources on a variety of topics they are passionate about, such as employment, affordable housing, transportation, health care, home- and community-based independent living, education, peer support, and leisure and recreation.
