UsersFirst Mobilizes Wheelchair Users to Demand Access to Essential Mobility Equipment

| March 4, 2013

United Spinal’s grassroots advocacy program UsersFirst has developed a new Mobile Registration Form to rally wheelchair users and disability advocates in the fight to challenge disability policies and improve access to mobility equipment.

The form will help UsersFirst mobilize wheelchair users, when needed, to address private, state and federal policy issues through timely alerts.

“We developed the form to make it easier to join UsersFirst’s grassroots movement to improve access to wheelchairs and other mobility equipment that are essential to the health and independence of Americans living with disabilities,” says Ann Eubank, UsersFirst vice president of Community Initiatives.

New registrants will also be offered education and support regarding the process of getting the best wheelchair to match their medical needs and lifestyle.

UsersFirst introduced the Mobile Registration Form at the 2013 International Seating Symposium (ISS), an annual conference which took place March 5-9 in Nashville, TN, where therapists and clinical professionals gathered discuss advancements in the areas of seating, positioning and mobility.

Scott Lopez, executive vice president of Sales at Numotion, one of the nation’s largest complex mobility providers says, “Numotion supports UsersFirst and United Spinal in their legislative efforts to influence positive policy change, ultimately resulting in increased opportunities for independence.”

“The consumer voice is imperative in our collaborative efforts to ensure consumer access to the most appropriate technology,” he added.

This year, the floor at ISS was open to the public rather than just professionals, giving wheelchair users the opportunity to check out the latest products and services that will enhance their mobility and independence.

“ISS is the perfect venue to continue strengthening and amplifying the voice of wheelchair users and advocates across the country. The Mobile Registration Form will be a key component in this effort,” explains Eubank.
